Did you know we can support fabricators and galvanisers?

10th February 2025

As we continue to grow as a business, we are always looking for new ways to help our customers. One of the ways we look to do this is by continually growing our product offerings. Thanks to the hard work of our teams, we can offer a bigger product range than ever before, including tags that can withstand even the most extreme processes. Innovation around durable tags and labels is always at the forefront of our offer here at Dura-ID Solutions.

Steel fabrication introduces some extremely tough processes that typical tags and labels just cannot handle. Without proper tag management, products could go to the wrong customer or end up in the wrong place at the wrong time. For many years now we have been hearing about the difficulty in tracking steel through fabrication, so we are very excited to announce that we are now able to offer a range of tags to survive these harsh environments.

Some of the processes we now have identification solutions for include-

Shot Blasting

Process

Shot blasting is the use of blast media fired at metal in fast rapid shots, given its name shot blasting. The shot blasting process is to ensure the removal of any contamination on the metal and change the coarseness or smoothness of the metal surface ready for the next step in the process.

Solution

Using our strong specially coated metal tags can help reduce the risk of losing traceability of your products throughout this abrasive process. Thanks to a special coating on the tag, you can guarantee readability throughout the process.

Painting

Process

A protective layer of paint is added to the product to help with exposure to weather, fire, or seawater. This helps prevent the metal from rust and gives it a more durable and aesthetically pleasing look.

Solution

The use of our tags means you can attach them to survive the acid prep, pre-wash, painting and curing process. Taking off the protective laminate after painting leaves the tags like new.  Using our paint tags means you can follow the steps from start to finish without losing sight of valuable data.

Powder Coating

Process

The process of powder coating has the process in its name, a coating that is sprayed onto the metal products before setting in the oven at up to 300°C. This is a stronger surface than painting and will leave the product with a more robust finish.

Solution

Our tags take you through the powder coating process, which includes the high-temperature curing process and will survive temperatures up to 300°C.  Tagging metal products through the chemical process can be difficult, often, products come out of this process looking very different from when they were sent in. Without proper tag management, products could go to the wrong customer or end up in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Galvanising

Process

Used to apply a protective zinc coating to steel or iron to help prevent the metal from corroding over time. The most common method of galvanising is hot dip galvanising, where the metal is dipped in zinc baths that are up to 450°C and then left to dry.

Solution

Using Galv tags could be the answer to all your questions, our tags eliminate the need for unsafe handling of steel and stay readable for every step of the process. This is thanks to our high contrast laser markable coating and special laminate.  Enabling you full traceability and error-proof installation.

Our heat-resistant tags can be printed with any text, logos, and barcodes. They are available in varying lengths for easy break-off. We also offer a wide variety of attachment options to fit your application, including wires, clips and tube clips.

We often get asked about high-temperature tags, specifically ones that withstand the harshest environments that metal products might go through. With our full range of identification solutions, we can serve our customers with the best products in the industry.
